Goal 01 of 04 · Social Security benefits
Protect Social Security.
Protect scheduled benefits and pursue durable funding before reserves run short.
What we are working toward
- Protect retirement, survivor, and disability benefits.
- Explain funding proposals and their tradeoffs in plain language.
- Track legislation using original sources and dated updates.
What the 22% figure means
The 2026 Trustees project that the retirement and survivors trust fund (OASI) will exhaust its reserves in late 2032. Continuing income would then cover 78% of scheduled benefits, a projected 22% shortfall if the law does not change. This is a projection, not a cut happening today. It is not the projection for the separate disability trust fund.
