Bills we’re watching · 119th Congress, 2025–2026

Know the bill.
Ask for action.

Two proposals connected to our goals. What they would do, who handles them, and one clear question you can ask.

Proposals, not new benefits. Both proposals are at the committee stage in the official records checked November 7, 2026. Neither has become law.

Goal 4 · Expand Medicare accessH.R. 10875

Improving Medicare
Coverage Act

Would lower Medicare’s eligibility age to 50 and expand help with Medicare costs. Introduced by Rep. Pramila Jayapal.

In committeeIntroduced October 22, 2026

What needs to happen next?

House Energy and Commerce and Ways and Means received the bill on October 22. Committee consideration and broader support are still needed.

One useful question

Will you support expanding Medicare eligibility—and work to make that coverage lasting?

Read this part: Our goal remains Medicare for All, starting at 60. This proposal starts at 50 and includes a sunset: its changes would end five years and six months after becoming law.

What else would change?

The introduced text creates federal Medicare cost assistance and broadens prescription-drug assistance for people with lower incomes. It also shifts certain Medicare cost-sharing assistance from state Medicaid programs to Medicare.

The eligibility change generally starts six months after enactment. This is not a promise that everyone can enroll now. The sunset and the transition for people already receiving help deserve close review.

Read the introduced text —sections 2–5 describe the changes; section 6 contains the sunset.

The next hurdle

A bill still has a long way to go.

Committee referral is a starting point. It does not mean a hearing, vote or passage is guaranteed.

Who is on the committee?

Start with the responsible committees.

The chair leads the committee. The ranking member leads the minority party. The official rosters link to members’ offices.

H.R. 1700 also went to House Education and Workforce and House Transportation and Infrastructure . Those referrals remain part of the bill’s path.

One call. One clear question.

Start with your own members.

Use an official office contact form or ask the Capitol switchboard to connect you. You can also contact a committee, while being clear about where you live.

All four goals still matter.

These two proposals are a starting watchlist. We also keep working for better SSA customer service and protecting Medicaid and reversing cuts.
