Goal 04 of 04 · Medicare for All
Medicare for All.
Work toward Medicare for All. Start by lowering the general Medicare eligibility age from 65 to 60.
What we are working toward
- Advocate Medicare for All as our longer-term goal.
- Pursue Medicare eligibility at age 60 as a first step.
- Explain coverage, costs, funding, provider access and transition choices using original sources.
Our adopted goal · A practical first step
Medicare for All.
Start with Medicare at 60.
Start with Medicare at 60.
This is a proposed policy change, not a change to current eligibility. You can ask questions or disagree with a proposal and still take part.
Our goal and today’s rules
Medicare generally starts at 65 for people who meet the applicable requirements. Some people qualify earlier because of disability, End-Stage Renal Disease or ALS. Medicare for All and a general starting age of 60 are changes we are advocating, not current eligibility rules. Lowering the age to 60 would be a first step; it would not by itself provide Medicare for everyone. We are not endorsing a particular bill through this goal.
