A little planning can help you ask the right questions.

Before retirement

When should I start? How might work affect my benefits? Could my family situation change my options? A consultation can help you understand the questions before you submit an application.

After the loss of a loved one

Survivor benefits can be available to eligible family members. We can help you understand what to ask SSA, which information to gather, and what to consider alongside your own retirement benefit.

Received an overpayment notice?

We can help you understand the notice and the questions to ask about an appeal, a waiver, or repayment options. These are different paths. A consultation does not submit a request or pause a deadline. Read your notice and contact SSA promptly if time is running short.

What to have nearby

  • Your main questions and what you hope to understand.
  • Your benefit estimate, if you already have one.
  • Any relevant SSA notice and the deadline printed on it.

Keep your Social Security number, account password, and verification codes private. You do not need to send them to ask a general question.

Common questions

Do I have to pay someone to apply?

No. You can apply directly through SSA. Our appointments are optional paid help for people who want an individual conversation or help working through a retirement application.

Can you guarantee a larger benefit?

No. Your payment depends on SSA’s rules and your circumstances. The goal is to help you understand the choices that apply to you.

What if my question is about disability?

Visit Disability Benefits & Appeals. Overpayment questions can be discussed through either page.
